North Cascades

A day after we arrived home from our week in Steamboat (mid-August), we camped with Eliana for the second time; this time our destination was the North Cascades, off Highway 20 near the small town of Marblemount. The weather was perfect, we enjoyed our new family-friendly tent and went on a beautiful day hike up to Cascade Pass. It was also the debut of Eliana's new ride, the Kelty Kid Pack, which she loved. And a bonus for mom was the stop for u-pick blueberries on the drive home (10 lbs!)

The funny story is that we attempted this hike a year ago (Eliana in utero), but unbeknownst to us, the access road was closed about 10 miles down from the trail head. We hadn't been watching the odometer, but thought, 'hey, we've got to be close' so we started walking on the dirt road to find ourselves not to the trail head after a couple hours (and probably about 6 miles). We turned around and good thing or we would have been walking for another 2 hours, but the great thing is that we passed by Mineral Springs Campground, which we noted and reserved this year. It was perfect access to Cascade Pass trail, which is a must-do for all Washingtonians. Only 3.7 miles with glaciers the entire way - unbeatable for such a short distance up and spectacular scenery.

New ride in the Kelty (thanks to my Aunt Cathy, Uncle Gary and cousins Lennea, Lanie and Lori)

The glaicers were incredible on this hike. North Cascades National Park is home to the most glaciers in the lower-48 (over 300!)
