Saturdays and Sundays

We love the weekends and spending time as a family. We took a picnic to Discovery Park this weekend and spent time on the beach. The weather has been unusually warm in Seattle for the spring and we took advantage of it. We also met up with friends for beers and Eliana loved hanging out in the Ergo while on Dad. If only every day was Saturday!!

New development: Eliana has started to smile. I kind of captured it in one picture below, but am trying to get one on video. She did it 3 times in a row on Saturday morning! Right on her 5-week birthday!!

All dressed up and ready to go

I love having my diaper changed - it makes me so happy!!

Old Friends

We were so lucky to have a visit from Emily and Henry Greif this week. After their move to Washington DC in November, this was the first trip back for Em and Henry. Janna, Will, Em, Henry, Eliana and I had a wonderful afternoon together - hanging out and taking a nice walk in the Seattle sunshine. Em was so happy to meet the new babies and we were so blessed to see her and Henry. It was a mini-UPS baby reunion!! Greifs, we miss you!!

Henry loved checking out the new babies

At this point I think Eliana was crying and Henry was trying to figure it out...

One Month

On Saturday, we celebrated Eliana's one month birthday by taking her on her first hike. It was short, but sweet and we found a perfect spot along Denny Creek (just off I-90) to have a picnic lunch. Dad was even creative enough to change a diaper by the creek....how's that for white noise accompanyment? We also soaked in the Seattle sun by celebrating with an early dinner at Ray's. Eliana slept the whole time in the Ergo while Mom and Dad enjoyed some fish and some Vitamin D.
Here are some fun facts about Eliana at one month:
-Weighs 8 lbs. 11 oz(double chin in full effect)
-Falls asleep instantaneously when on a drive, a walk, a hike
-Voices her opinion when her diaper is wet or when we put her in the car seat
-Had her first date with William Redman (well, if we can call a date as asleep together on a blanket)
-Loves when her Daddy sings, "No Baby, No Cry" to her
-Has developed a love for the pacifier
-LOOOOOOVEEES bath time

Hang out time

We love hanging out with Eliana and watching her. She's started to make smile movements in her sleep and makes the most amazing grunts we've ever heard. And, she loves to cuddle and sleep on mom and dad. It's so fun to have a little space heater sleep on your chest. There's also a video of her hanging out, which is not super eventful for some, but for us, we think it's great (of course!!).

Show & Tell

Today Eliana made her debut at ESPN. Nate's co-workers were in awe of her, commenting on how small and cute she is. Of course we agree, but it was fun to watch a bunch of adults gathered around a 7 lb little baby gawking and forgetting about their grown-up jobs. Eliana was an angel and slept through all of it and even let Mom and Dad hit up Belle Epicurean for an afternoon date of coffee and pain au chocolate. What a fun day for show & tell and an awesome way to wrap up the week.

2 Weeks Old!

Eliana is now two weeks old. We went to the doctor last week for the check up and she's one ounce away from her birth weight (7 lbs 5 oz), which makes us feel good since we know she's starting to get enough to eat. The beginning of week 3 means that both Nate and my Mom have gone back to work (Colorado for my Mom). Today was my first day alone with her and I've started to realize that the exercise I did in my pregnancy is translating into her wanting non-stop motion now. Today, we went for a walk in the Bob and in 5 minutes she was fast asleep. In the house it took me about 45 minutes to get her to settle down. I'm learning more and more every day and hopefully will get better at this as the days go by. Eliana, meet Discovery Park

Week #2

Eliana is growing and changing every day. She's becoming more alert and aware, opening her eyes more and starting to focus on things. It's so fun to watch. We've gotten out of the house for some walks and meals, enjoying the amazing Seattle spring weather. And, Eliana has had a couple baths. Her umbilical cord stump fell off, so we've given her a bath and she seems to like it. My mom is still here, helping with cooking, cleaning and taking care of her. We are so thankful to have the help and not worry about feeding ourselves or going to the grocery store. Yesterday, at the doctor Eliana was almost back to birth weight at 7 lbs. 4 oz. Tomorrow is her two-week check up, so we're hoping she's back to fighting weight (7 lbs. 6 oz).
